RUSSELL L. QUACCHIA, AUTHOR OF "JULIA MORGAN ARCHITECT, AND THE CREATION OF ASILOMAR CONFERENCE GROUNDS" TO CONDUCT MARCH 4, 2006 BOOK SIGNING AT ASILOMAR

PACIFIC GROVE, CA, February 15 2006 - In honor of Women's History Month, California State Parks will conduct a book signing event with Russell L. Quacchia, author of "Julia Morgan, Architect, and the Creation of Asilomar Conference Grounds." The event will take place in the Phoebe A. Hearst Social Hall at Asilomar Conference Grounds in Pacific Grove on March 4 from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m.

The newly published book presents an interesting biographical profile of Julia Morgan's family history, childhood, formal education and remarkable 47-year professional career, during which she designed nearly 800 structures. As California's first licensed female architect, her pioneering vision, dedication and artistic skill has led experts to regard her accomplishments as an inspirational legacy.

Asilomar opened in 1913 as the first national conference center and summer camp owned by the Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA). Julia Morgan was hired as the architect to design 16 structures between 1913 and 1928. Eleven of those original buildings still remain today, and are listed as an National Historic Landmark. Her work at Asilomar represents the largest collection of California Arts & Crafts style buildings in one location.

Russell L. Quacchia's biographical profile of Julia Morgan is available for sale at the Asilomar Retail Store for $21.50 plus tax. The event is free of charge and open to the public. For more information on the book signing event, please contact the Asilomar Ranger Station at (831) 372-4076.
