STATE PARKS LED TOURS at Asilomar State Beach & Conference Grounds
Take a tour with California State Parks! Park staff-led tours provide a wealth of knowledge about this coastal refuge and you will walk away with a new perspective or a renewed appreciation of Asilomar's natural and cultural history.
For regularly scheduled tour times visit www.parks.ca.gov/asilomar or stop by the State Park desk in the Phoebe Apperson Hearst Social Hall where tour times are posted. Schools and conference groups may contact State Parks directly to request a tour time that meets your needs.

Our most popular tour, the Ramble is an overview of the beginnings of Asilomar, Julia Morgan Architecture, and Natural Forest and Dune Preserve information. The Asilomar Ramble is an easy walk over paths and roadways covering the "Historic Core" of the conference grounds and the Dunes Boardwalk. FREE tour lasts approximately 1 hour. WHERE: Meet at the State Parks desk in the Phoebe Apperson Hearst Social Hall (Registration Building).
Asilomar Birds and their Habitat Homes
Join a State Parks staff person to discover how the approximately 60 different bird species of Asilomar State Beach and Conference Grounds utilize their respective habitats - from Piney Woods to Surf and Shore! FREE tour lasts one hour; dress in layers and bring binoculars.

Dunes and Coast Trail Hike
Get out and about for an invigorating “hike” through our Natural Dunes Preserve and finishing at the Asilomar State Beach Coast Trail. Preservation and management of these natural habitats will be topics discussed along the way. Walking shoes and layers of clothing recommended. Easy but brisk pace will ensure you work up an appetite for dinner! FREE tour lasts approximately 1 hour.
WHERE: Meet at the Fire Pit, bottom of the Circle – adjacent to the Beach Boardwalk.
Group Tours for Conference Groups
Group tours are a great option for Conference Groups staying at the Asilomar Conference Grounds. Group tours last approximately 45-60 minutes, and are by request only. Group Tours are subject to staff availability - please contact the State Parks in advance.
School Group Programs (K-12 grades)
Educators are encouraged to contact State Parks in advance so we can meet your class' curriculum and study needs. Examples of Group Tour Topics: The Architecture of Julia Morgan - Learn about Julia Morgan and her Arts and Crafts architectural vision for Asilomar. Tour will stop at several Julia Morgan buildings; entry for some buildings is dependent on conference/lodging use. Easy walk over paved paths and roadways in the "Historic Core" of the conference grounds. One hour.
The Natural Dune Preserve of Asilomar State Beach
The plants and wildlife of Asilomar's dunes are flourishing thanks to State Parks' comprehensive Dunes restoration project begun in 1984. Hear how the fragile balance of the dunes ecosystem was restored as you stroll along the boardwalk that was built as part of this successful restoration and protection effort. Easy 1/4 mile walk over maintained boardwalk. 45 minutes.
