Visit beautiful Asilomar State Beach

Asilomar State Beach

Asilomar Conference Grounds®, known as Monterey Peninsula's "Refuge by the Sea" is located on 107 acres of protected beachfront land, within the quaint and scenic town of Pacific Grove. This year marks the landmark 50-year anniversary of Asilomar State Beach and Conference Grounds as a proud unit of the California State Park system. This special heritage inspires an ongoing commitment for the care and preservation of Asilomar’s flora and fauna – enabling our guests to truly enjoy the natural surroundings of this tranquil retreat.
Ecologically diverse, Asilomar is a mix of California: Sand dunes, beach, Monterey pine, cypress and oak forest create our tranquil landscape. But perhaps its most distinguishing feature is its rich history and the buildings designed by Julia Morgan. As California's first licensed female architect who assisted in the creation of Hearst Castle, Morgan created Asilomar's original 15 structures between 1919 and 1928.

Thirteen structures remain today and combined constitute her largest collection of Arts & Crafts style architecture in one location. These structures are listed as a National Historic Landmark and are listed on the Registrar of Historic Places. Thirty years later, John Carl Warnecke (best known for John F. Kennedy's gravesite memorial), created seven more complexes that make up Asilomar today.
