Oceanfront retreat offers individual reservations, upon space availability, year-round
Asilomar Conference Grounds, located on California’s beautiful Monterey Peninsula, is more than just a popular location for group meetings. The beachfront retreat also caters to leisure travelers with affordable rates on a space available basis.
Leisure rates for this charming, ocean-side getaway include full breakfast the next morning and are priced: $132.53 per room in the historic buildings, and $149.03 for a standard room (many with fireplaces and private patios/balconies). These rates are based per room, per night, double occupancy and include all taxes plus a full country-style breakfast each morning through December 31, 2007.
Guests will awake to a full breakfast in the Crocker Dining Complex, served 7:30 a.m. – 9 a.m. daily. Spacious and inviting, Crocker Dining Complex is a social hall with high-beamed ceilings, stone pillars, wood flooring and panoramic views of the neighboring forest and dunes. Chef Colin Moody creates such delicious dishes as Monterey Mushroom Fritatta with Chicken Apple Sausage; Eggs Benedict with homemade Hollandaise; Cinnamon French Toast with Applewood Smoked Bacon or Spring Vegetable Egg Scramble with Mini Potato Pancakes. Daily breakfasts also include unlimited offerings of fresh fruit, hot and cold cereals, yogurt, freshly baked pastries and organic French roast coffee.
Asilomar is a sprawling complex of 28 quaint lodge buildings set on 103 acres of natural forest, sand dunes and coastline. The 314 guest rooms range from the original cozy cabin-like structures that were designed by acclaimed architect Julia Morgan between 1913-1928 (now designated as historic landmarks) or more contemporary rooms that may include fireplaces, private patios and a centrally located social room for family gatherings, card games, or sing-a-longs by the piano. All rooms feature private baths and scenic forest or ocean views designed to reflect the surrounding beauty of nature.
For recreation, Asilomar guests can enjoy renting a self-guided audio tour that offers insight on Asilomar’s impressive historical status, architectural significance, natural ecology and wildlife.
